I need help with my astronomy project. i have to write a paper about why the universe changes so much? what we mean by violent and catastrophic events, we have to explain how sicentists gather data and information about these events and objects. we have to choose one of the objects or events and we have to explain what scientists are learning as they gather the data and info from available technology. and we have to explain the impact and the importance of these scientific and technological developments to both the general publicand the scientific community. any and all of your help is going to be greatly appreciated.

First off, I’d argue that the universe doesn’t change very much at all…how much has it changed in say, the last 20 million years? It changed a lot in the first 3 minutes (read the book “The First Three Minutes”), but other than that, zip.
Oh, there’s the occasional nova, but other than that, what? OK, so there are brief short lived phenomena, nova and such. Take a look at skyandtelescope.com, and esp. at the ref website for info on how pros and ams alike are waiting with bated breath for the next big event. On the s&t home page, look under ‘proam collaboration’…even “violent and catastrophic events” involve one star in a galaxy…compared to the 100 billion start in the average spiral, the change is minor.
